22 may is a day in the life of Sam, a colorless, dull man who gets involved in a terrorist attack. It marks the second feature film collaboration for director Koen Mortier and Glynn Speeckaert, following their 2007 film \u201cEx-drummer\u201d.<\/p>\n

The style of the film? Gus Van Sant meets Koen Mortier,.. interesting, no?I have been working with Koen ever since he made his first short film, we met after we had finished film school.<\/span> Over the years we got older and learned a lot …. and not!<\/p>\n

Some 90 percent of film was shot using a steadicam operated by Jo Vermaercke.I used a set of cooke panchros for their flares and the lightweight angenieux zooms to make Jo’s<\/span> life a bit easier. Koen loves natural images, no trickery involved, and trashy sets.\u00a0If we were able to shoot without adding artificial light then that was the way to go..don’t touch what you have, keep it natural. Even on interiors.<\/p>\n

As we shot in Belgium in the winter wanted to be able to keep up the continuity. So gaffer Dieter Van der Eecken had some joker 400w\/800w with bug-o-beams ( leko\u2019s) on hand to help me keep up with the ever changing frame by bouncing some light off a wall and or reflective materials.As we were shooting high speed on Phantom we tested<\/span> the Sony F35. But it turned out be to complicated to deploy it on a steadicam. Also we’re a bit old school so we love shooting film.We checked out the grain solution. I did some tests pulling the stocks, but even this was to expensive for a low budget film like this.So I only used it some scenes.I ended up using Fuji stocks, which I love for their texture, and they’re cheaper!<\/p>\n
