LED workshop at Film Festival Oostende

The new led lighting technology for film and digital cinematography Hosted by the SBC.

On Friday, September 15, 2017, the Film Festival Oostende will organize together with Mediarte the sixth edition of Flanders Film Meeting at CC The Grote Post Oostende. This day marks the exchange between the Netherlands and Flanders in order to transcend the boundaries between both film industries. The key questions are: What can we learn from each other and how can we create better collaborations?

The cinematography master class concentrates on the recent evolution that led lights have brought to film lighting. In addition, different facets are addressed: the intrinsic differences between LED, HMI, Tungsten and Fluorescent Light sources, the different design philosophies of different LED fittings, the pitfalls for measuring led light and the use of color and correction filters. In addition, special attention is paid to the ecological aspect of led lighting. Following the discussion, various LED fittings are demonstrated and there is an opportunity to ask questions with the following panel moderated by Marijke Van Kets (SBC): Philip Van Volsem (SBC), Christophe Nuyens (SBC), Lou Berghmans (SBC), Patrick Haegeman (Gaffer at K-Light) and Kristof Collier (Independent Gaffer).

David van der Veen is the founder of Het Licht Equipment Rental and lighting designer of more than 200 television spots and the films “Nynke” and “Black Meteor”. He worked together with the following DOPs: Bert Pot, Daniel Gallenkamp, Edwin Verstegen, Gabor Deak, Glyn Speekaert, Hein Groot, John Fenner, Joost van Gelder, Menno Westendorp, Phillip van Volsem, Paul van den Bos, Remco Bakker, Robby Müller, Rob Hodselmans, Rutger Storm, Sander Candy, Tom Erisman, Willem Nagtglas, Wouter Suyderhout. He is also a guest lecturer at the Dutch Film Academy.

The professional association Society of Belgian Cinematographers, a permanent partner of Flanders Film Meeting and FFO, is host of this master class.
